Welcome to Folio.YVR Luxury Lifestyle Magazine‘s celebration of SUMMER! Now is the time when we begin shifting our focus from the ever-present hustle to taking time away, whether just for a few hours, a couple of days, or a significant break from it all.

With this issue, I am pleased to share our third story in the Showcase Pianos Presents series, featuring internationally renowned soprano Hedy Chan. She visited our beautiful city and fell in love! Read more about her experience visiting many of the city’s one-of-a-kind Fazioli‘s on Page 29.

In this issue, catch up with two beloved Vancouverites who took their careers to new places and are thriving. In an interview with eTalk and CP24‘s Sonia Mangat, we learn more about her life in Toronto and how finding ‘balance’ is no longer a priority. Designer Stevie Crowne took his unique brand of repurposed fashion to Europe and we are excited to share his latest demi-couture AW23 PHOENIX collection and statement with you.

Designed with a new generation of consumers, the Coachtopia brand satisfies Gen Z‘s thirst for sustainability in fashion through upcycling and strong repurposing initiatives.

The Vancouver Art Gallery launched the Fashion Fictions exhibition featuring designs from our most-coveted list, including Balenciaga, Balmain, and Comme des Garçons. Our cover image is a polymorphic robotic garment created by Quebec artist Ying Gao entitled 2 5 2 6 from 2022.

Speaking of the VAG, it has been a hot minute (actually five years) since international art icon Takashi Murakami visited with the ‘Octopus Eats Its Own Leg’ exhibit.

We catch up with one of the year’s hottest drops and feature Murakami’s colourful collaboration with Swiss luxury watchmaker Hublot.

This year, Tiffany & Co. not only celebrated the launch of the Tiffany Landmark flagship in New York City but also shared the breathtaking Jean Schlumberger-designed Bird on a Rock collection with Vancouver. Maison Guerlain stunned with its newest must-have bottle for Bouquet de la Mariée, designed by Murano Glass expert Aristide Najean, and 174-year-old jewellery company Lao Feng Xiang released the Leslie Cheung Commemorative Collection. Most do not realize that the actor and Cantopop sensation lived in Vancouver for years before his untimely death by suicide.

…and what would an issue of Folio.YVR be without an exciting getaway? This month, we visited Sin City‘s hottest new property, the Asian-themed Resorts World Las Vegas. The expansive $4.3B property has something for everyone including Craig’s vegan ice cream parlour and Chef Tal Ronnen‘s award-winning fine dining restaurant Crossroads Kitchen, three hotels (Hilton, Conrad, Crockfords), a shopping mall, nine swimming pools, self-driving Teslas, and so much more!

Thank you for Emily Lin of Tiffany & Co for taking my picture for this issue!

All my best,

Helen Siwak, EIC & Publisher of Folio.YVR
