DanceHouse, in collaboration with Canada Dance Ice Theatre, is proud to present the highly anticipated Vancouver premiere of Murmuration, an exhilarating work by the internationally acclaimed Le Patin Libre.
A breathtaking fusion of movement and mathematics, Murmuration is inspired by the ethereal flight patterns of bird flocks. Choreographed by Alexandre Hamel, Pascale Jodoin, and Samory Ba, this full-length ice dance work employs intricate algorithms to translate nature’s organic fluidity into an awe-inspiring display on the ice. Accompanied by an atmospheric soundtrack composed by Jasmin Boivin and Philippe Le Bon, the performance immerses audiences in a world where art, athleticism, and the sublime converge.

Bringing together 15 virtuoso skaters from seven countries, Murmuration transcends the conventions of ice dance, transforming the rink into a boundless stage where the collective and the individual seamlessly intertwine. The skaters’ movements, at once instinctual and meticulously orchestrated, echo the hypnotic unity of a murmuration—a living, breathing entity in perpetual motion. The result is a visual and emotional spectacle that has left critics spellbound, with The Dance Current describing the experience as “something transcendent and alien, like witnessing a natural phenomenon unfold before your eyes.”
Le Patin Libre was founded in Montreal in 2005 by a group of pioneering figure skaters who sought to break free from the traditional conventions of ice performance. Rejecting glitter and competition in favour of artistic innovation, they have since redefined ice dance, transforming arenas into immersive theatres. Touring internationally since 2014, the company continues to push the boundaries of contemporary performance, earning accolades from dance critics and audiences alike.
To celebrate this landmark presentation, DanceHouse invites audiences to a free Disco Skating Party on Sunday, March 23, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., where attendees can join company members on the ice for an unforgettable communal experience.
