A Doll’s House has returned to the Vancouver stage, reimagined for today’s audience in a powerful new version by celebrated playwright Amy Herzog. Presented in partnership with Theatre Calgary, this groundbreaking production runs until October 5, 2025, at the Stanley BFL CANADA Stage.

First performed in 1879, Henrik Ibsen’s drama shocked audiences with its unflinching portrayal of marriage, gender roles, and individual freedom. Now, under the direction of Anita Rochon, the story of Nora Helmer is given fresh resonance. At first glance, Nora’s world appears perfect: happy children, a beautiful home, and a husband thriving in a lucrative career. Yet beneath the polished surface lies a secret that could shatter everything. As Nora’s reality unravels, audiences are invited to reflect on the constraints of tradition and the timeless quest for self-actualization.
Herzog’s adaptation breathes urgency and intimacy into Ibsen’s classic text, while the visual world of the play is shaped by the artistry of set designer Amir Ofek and costume designer Ralamy Kneeshaw. Together, the creative team reimagines the Helmer household as a space both alluring and confining, amplifying the drama’s central tension.

This is a rare opportunity to witness a bold retelling of one of theatre’s most enduring works in Vancouver.
