On the evening of May 22, QMUNITY welcomed a circle of dedicated supporters, community leaders, and art enthusiasts into the home of Bruce Munro Wright for an intimate gathering that marked a significant milestone in the organization’s evolution. The event served as the official unveiling of the art curation strategy for QMUNITY’s new community centre—a highly anticipated project that will soon become a vibrant hub of inclusivity, connection, and creative expression in Vancouver.
Guests were warmly received into the four-story residence, a space that, much like the event itself, felt deeply personal, thoughtful, and full of intention. The evening unfolded in an atmosphere of celebration and collaboration, where conversations flowed easily between longtime advocates and newcomers alike. With art displayed throughout the home and voices from the community guiding the narrative, the occasion reflected the values at the heart of QMUNITY’s mission.
The curation strategy was presented as a bold and visionary extension of QMUNITY’s existing work. Focused on amplifying the diverse stories, histories, and identities within the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, the strategy prioritizes works by queer, trans, and Two-Spirit artists, ensuring that every piece within the new centre not only beautifies the space, but affirms the lived experiences of those who walk through its doors.
Director of Development Michael Robach, emphasized that the new building is more than just a physical structure—it is a home for those seeking belonging, support, and empowerment. From free counselling and gender-affirming resources to youth peer support and inclusivity workshops, QMUNITY’s programs are powered by a belief in lived equality, resilience, and personal growth.
The night also provided a meaningful reminder of the collective power within the community—whether it was meeting Nya Lewis, Art Curator for QMUNITY, experiencing the land acknowledgement with drummer Sempulyan or sharing in an immersive biology teaching by designer Sierra Baker—the stories shared over wine and light refreshments highlighted the everyday impact of QMUNITY’s initiatives.
Performances over the course of the evening included the inimitable Hazel, parting gifts by Tallu Co and Body Energy Club, evening concluded, there was a palpable sense of momentum. Guests left not only informed, but energized—ready to support the next chapter of QMUNITY’s journey.
While the unveiling event was intimate, the work ahead is expansive—and everyone has a role to play.
Volunteers are the foundation of QMUNITY’s strength. Volunteering at QMUNITY is a rewarding way to make a tangible difference in the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. For every successful service offered, countless volunteers work behind the scenes, bringing their skills, time, and energy to make our programs possible—all while connecting with like-minded individuals. Whether assisting with events, supporting community programs, or engaging directly with members, volunteers help amplify our impact.
