Fairmont Pacific Rim unveiled Suite X, a one-of-a-kind concept created in collaboration with acclaimed Canadian visual artist and author Douglas Coupland, alongside the hotel’s co-owner and developers, Westbank and Peterson. Inspired by Coupland’s iconic novel Generation X, the suite paid homage to the demographic that redefined identity, technology, and culture.
A Living Gallery Experience
Suite X blurred the lines between art, design, and hospitality, offering an immersive extension of the hotel’s newly renovated Fairmont Gold experience. VIP guests were invited to step into Coupland’s creative world — a living gallery reflecting his fascination with contemporary culture, technology, and Canadian identity — and indulge with a Belvedere 10 Caviar martini.
The suite showcased Coupland’s signature pop-art aesthetic with bold visuals, custom-designed furniture, and an in-suite bar. Unexpected design elements invited guests to pause, reflect, and engage in conversation, creating an experience that felt deeply personal yet universally resonant.
Douglas Coupland’s Vision
“I was very much a product of the late 20th century, and this suite reflected my deep love for that era,” said Coupland. “When I was growing up, Vancouver felt like nowhere — and then, post-Olympics, it suddenly became somewhere. I never expected to witness such a transformation, but I had the privilege of being part of the city’s full evolution.”
The artist’s influence was felt in every detail. The suite featured original Coupland artworks and carefully curated literature from his personal collection and the TASCHEN library. With sweeping views of Vancouver’s waterfront and mountains, Suite X evoked the intimacy of being in Coupland’s own living room.

Expanding Fairmont Gold
Suite X also reflected Fairmont Pacific Rim’s commitment to elevating its Fairmont Gold experience. The reimagined Fairmont Gold floor became a nature-inspired sanctuary offering bespoke services and elevated amenities tailored for the discerning traveller. Suite X served as its vibrant artistic extension, designed to inspire and connect guests with Vancouver’s evolving cultural narrative.
A Unique Vancouver Story
“Suite X represented the intersection of hospitality and artistry, a place where inspiration lived and guests could connect with a truly unique Vancouver story,” said Jens Moesker, Regional Vice President and General Manager of Fairmont Pacific Rim. “Collaborating with Douglas Coupland was an incredible creative journey.”
By merging the creative vision of Douglas Coupland with the hotel’s commitment to exceptional design and guest experiences, Fairmont Pacific Rim created more than just a suite. Suite X became a celebration of Vancouver’s identity, its creative pulse, and its global influence — offering guests an unforgettable stay where art and hospitality truly converged.
