In a city where glass towers rise against the backdrop of the Pacific and snow-dusted peaks, luxury finds ever-new expressions. The latest? A transformation that promises to redefine refined hospitality in Vancouver. Hyatt Hotels Corporation has set in motion plans to unveil the city’s first Park Hyatt in 2026—a reimagining of the iconic tower that was once the Shangri-La Vancouver.

Currently operating as Hyatt Vancouver Downtown Alberni, the landmark at 1128 West Georgia Street already exudes contemporary elegance. Perched in Vancouver’s tallest building, its 119 guest rooms gaze out over the harbor and the vibrant city below. From this vantage point, the energy of Alberni Street’s designer boutiques and the cultural richness of nearby galleries feel close enough to touch.

But Hyatt has grander ambitions than simply another luxury address. A multi-million-dollar redesign will soon elevate every element of the hotel experience. Guestrooms will be meticulously reimagined, the residential-style lobby infused with new warmth and sophistication, and the spa re-envisioned as a sanctuary of wellness worthy of the Park Hyatt name. The result will be an intimate haven where thoughtful design meets understated indulgence.

“Reimagining this iconic luxury hotel will enable Hyatt to thoughtfully expand our luxury portfolio in Canada,” says Scott Richer, Hyatt’s vice president of development and owner relations in Canada. The project is part of a strategy to strengthen Hyatt’s presence in Canada’s premier urban markets, building on the success of Park Hyatt Toronto.

Discerning travelers will discover more than a place to stay. Featuring Chi Spa and the acclaimed restaurant Carlino, with its northern Italian heritage, showcases house-made pastas and locally sourced ingredients in a setting that has already earned Michelin recognition. Here, culinary tradition is elevated through seasonality and the craft of Vancouver’s finest purveyors.

With this transformation, Park Hyatt Vancouver will not only mark the brand’s debut in British Columbia but also offer a new benchmark for luxury in a city that has long blended cosmopolitan style with coastal splendor. For members of World of Hyatt, every stay will bring opportunities to earn rewards while savouring a fresh perspective on one of Canada’s most captivating destinations.

Hyatt Vancouver Downtown Alberni is now welcoming guests as it begins its journey toward becoming Vancouver’s next great hotel legacy—a property where the art of hospitality will soon meet the soul of the Pacific Northwest.
