Across centuries and continents, opera has remained one of humanity’s most electrifying art forms—where voice, music, and theatre unite to ignite every sense. From the gilded halls of Milan to the modern stages of Vancouver, each season’s opening is a celebration of timeless storytelling. In this city by the sea, Vancouver Opera’s season launch marks the return of grandeur, artistry, and emotional resonance that only live performance can deliver.

A Season Begins With Rigoletto
This fall, the curtain rises on the 2025–2026 season with Verdi’s Rigoletto, opening October 25 at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre. A masterpiece of love, betrayal, and vengeance, the production immerses audiences in a world of decadence and dark intrigue. The jester Rigoletto’s fateful attempt to protect his daughter from the Duke of Mantua spirals into tragedy—set to some of Verdi’s most hauntingly beautiful music, including “La donna è mobile” and “Caro nome.”

Collaboration And Creative Brilliance
A co-production with Pacific Opera Victoria, this Rigoletto is directed by Glynis Leyshon (Flight of the Hummingbird) and conducted by Music Director Jacques Lacombe (Madama Butterfly). American baritone Micheal Chioldi and rising soprano Sarah Dufresne lead the cast, joined by Yongzhao Yu, Nathan Berg, Emma Parkinson, and Neil Craighead. Together with the Vancouver Opera Chorus and Orchestra, they bring Verdi’s emotional landscape to vivid life.
