On a rain-soaked Vancouver evening, the Gaggenau showroom at 36 East 6th Avenue in the Armoury Design District became the stage for an extraordinary unveiling. Designers, architects, culinary professionals, media, and invited VIPs gathered inside the elegant space to experience the debut of the Gaggenau Expressive series, the brand’s first entirely new cavity appliance range in nearly two decades.
Guests were greeted by Natalie Chan, Brand Manager for Thermador and Gaggenau, and Drydon Chow, Account Director at Group SJR, both of whom had flown in from Toronto for the special evening. Their welcome set the tone for an event designed to reveal not only a new appliance collection, but also the philosophy behind its creation.

The evening unfolded as an immersive, choreographed culinary experience centred around the showcase kitchen island. Guests were invited to gather around the perimeter, each positioned behind an elongated tasting plate that held a sequence of miniature culinary sculptures. As the presentation began, chefs guided the guests through the creation of each bite in real time, demonstrating how different appliances within the Gaggenau Expressive series worked independently and in combination. From the precise heat control of the ovens to the nuanced capabilities of the combi-steam technology, each course revealed the equipment’s role in shaping flavour, texture, and presentation, transforming the kitchen island into both stage and laboratory.

Outside, rain glistened on the pavement, while inside the atmosphere was one of quiet anticipation and discovery. Conversations circled around craftsmanship, architecture, and culinary innovation as guests experienced firsthand how the Gaggenau Expressive series reimagines the relationship between technology and design.

Sculptural Design Language
The Gaggenau Expressive series draws deeply from Bauhaus principles and minimalist modern architecture, presenting a suite of built-in kitchen appliances that function as a cohesive sculptural collection. The series includes a Range, Oven, Combi-Steam Oven, Combi-Microwave Oven, Fully Automatic Coffee Machine, Vacuuming Drawer, and Culinary Warming Drawer.
At the centre of the design philosophy is the concept described simply as “two frames, one circle.”

The outer frame creates a clear architectural boundary with the surrounding kitchen environment, while the inner frame houses the distinctive passepartout detail: Gaggenau stainless steel positioned behind smoked glass. The interplay between the two materials balances strength and elegance, delivering a visual language that is both bold and refined.
Floating at the centre of the glass façade is the tactile control ring, an interactive element that combines digital precision with physical feedback. As users approach the appliance, the interface awakens, illuminating the display behind the smoked glass. The result is an interface that feels intuitive and almost ceremonial in its interaction.
Alexander Stuhler, Industrial Designer for Gaggenau, explains the depth of the design process behind the series.
“After nine years of development, we have something that evokes joy through both its design and how it performs. It’s not just another oven – it’s an experience that redefines what luxury in the kitchen can feel like.”
Engineering Culinary Precision
Beyond its striking design, the Expressive series embodies the professional-grade performance for which Gaggenau is renowned.
The ovens feature a high-performance heating system and a full-surface grill concealed behind Gaggenau’s signature blue enamel interior. Temperatures reach up to 300°C, supporting everything from delicate pastry work to high-heat roasting. Automatic cooking programs and a multi-point core temperature probe provide exceptional control, while the pyrolytic self-cleaning system simplifies maintenance.
Precision craftsmanship remains central to the production process. Stainless steel surfaces are hand-brushed by skilled artisans before entering the automated finishing stages. Custom milling produces the chamfered edges that define the series’ crisp geometry, while refined joints and minimal visible fasteners maintain the purity of the design.
Sven Baacke, Head of Design for Gaggenau, emphasizes that this balance between engineering and artistry was intentional from the beginning.
“While many brands focus on simplicity, the Gaggenau Expressive series combines boldness with refinement. We aim to create pieces that are not just functional, but also sculptural statements. Our designs celebrate craftsmanship and the legacy of our brand, ensuring that they resonate with customers who appreciate both tradition and innovation. The Gaggenau Expressive series invites users to experience luxury in a way that’s distinctively Gaggenau, rather than simply blending in.”
He adds, “Everything is executed with precision, from the stainless-steel edges to the way the appliance integrates into the kitchen. The quality of the materials and the attention to detail is what makes this series stand out.”
Technology That Feels Human
One of the most compelling aspects of the evening was watching guests interact with the appliances for the first time. The floating control ring, both sculptural and functional, became an immediate focal point.
Soeren Strayle, User Interaction and Interface Designer for Gaggenau, reflected on the emotional response the design evoked once the series was introduced in 2025.
“What really stood out to me was the reaction when people first used the series in person. There was a moment of quiet awe, followed by expressions of sheer joy and fascination. It’s called the Gaggenau Expressive series, and it truly evokes those emotions, but there’s still a level of subtlety in the design.”
That moment of discovery echoed throughout the evening as guests sampled the five culinary bites created specifically to demonstrate the equipment. Each dish highlighted a different function within the series, reinforcing the idea that the appliances are not only visually striking, but deeply practical for serious culinary work.
A New Chapter for Gaggenau
For a brand known for precision engineering and architectural elegance, the Expressive series represents both continuity and evolution.
The collection honours Gaggenau’s longstanding commitment to craftsmanship while introducing a distinctly contemporary design language rooted in Bauhaus philosophy. The result is a kitchen suite that feels simultaneously timeless and forward-looking.
Within the softly lit Vancouver showroom, surrounded by designers and culinary enthusiasts, the message was clear. The Gaggenau Expressive series is more than a new appliance line. It is a carefully orchestrated statement about how technology, architecture, and culinary culture can coexist within a single, beautifully considered space.
