Tasty Indian Bistro in Abbotsford is more than a restaurant—it is the embodiment of a dream nurtured over decades, spanning continents, and deeply rooted in family. Its story begins with Avtar Saini, a visionary whose passion for hospitality was shaped in India long before arriving in Canada. Before immigrating in 1994, Avtar successfully managed a chain of restaurants from Gujarat to Punjab, mastering the business from an early age. With that experience, he and his family opened their first Canadian restaurant, a modest 50-seat space that quickly became one of the busiest Indian dining destinations in the Lower Mainland.

With the support of his daughter Parminder, his son Inder, and the rest of the family, Avtar transformed Tasty Sweets into a community staple—an establishment that was more than just a place to eat. Every dish was prepared with the same care as if it were being served at the family table, making guests feel like they were part of something larger than themselves. Avtar’s vision was clear: create a space where people could enjoy exceptional food while dining in an atmosphere inspired by the grandeur of the Taj Mahal.

Today, his children have carried that dream forward with integrity, discipline, and a passion for great food. Parminder and Inder now lead the family business, ensuring that Tasty Indian Bistro thrives as both a culinary destination and a tribute to their father’s remarkable journey.

A New Brunch Experience

This July, Tasty Indian Bistro in Abbotsford launched with an all-new menu, marking an exciting chapter for the restaurant. To celebrate, the family hosted an exclusive event, welcoming dozens of media, VIP guests, and local foodies to experience the menu firsthand. The buzz was well-deserved—the offerings are a thoughtful blend of traditional Indian flavours and modern brunch favourites, carefully curated to bring something new to the table while staying true to the restaurant’s heritage. Guests can also purchase the restaurant’s delicious sauces – bottled and ready to take home!

The menu is a celebration of variety and innovation. Guests can indulge in classics like Aloo Poori—fluffy, deep-fried bread paired with spicy potato curry—or try the Pune Style Poha, a comforting dish of flattened rice seasoned with mustard seeds, turmeric, and green chilies, topped with coriander and lemon for brightness. Channa Bhatura, a much-loved dish featuring fried bread served alongside channa masala, spiced potatoes, raita, and pickles, is another standout.

For those craving lighter fare, the Acai Bowl combines acai with blueberries, banana, juices, and yogurt, topped with fresh seasonal fruits, granola, and cacao nibs. Western favourites also receive an elevated twist, such as the Classic Waffles with burnt orange chocolate and spicy maple syrup or the Banana Walnut Pancakes (eggless) infused with cardamom for a warm, aromatic touch.

The Garden Veggie Burger is a must-try, with an in-house vegetable patty served on a toasted bun with supercharged mayo and chilli fries. Guests can also explore the Veg Lunch Special, which includes three chef’s curries of the day, naan, and rice—a perfect option for those wanting a taste of multiple flavours in one meal.

Honouring the Past, Building the Future

Tasty Indian Bistro (IG: @tastyindian) is more than just a restaurant; it is a growing brand that continues to push boundaries while honouring its roots. Since introducing the TB Monogram in 2020—a stylish emblem that pays tribute to Avtar Saini—the brand has embraced its identity as both a beacon of tradition and a force for innovation. You will find the monogram proudly displayed at the restaurant entrances, a visual reminder of the founder’s vision and the legacy that continues to inspire the team.

The family’s entrepreneurial spirit has expanded beyond the restaurant itself, with ventures in construction, hospitality, and additional dining concepts. Yet, at the heart of everything they do remains the same commitment to quality, authenticity, and the joy of creating meaningful dining experiences.

And if you cannot get enough of their flavours? Take a bit of Tasty home. Perfect for packing into lunches are the Vegetable Samosas, Sev Puri (crispy hollow pastries filled with potatoes, chickpeas, tamarind sauce, yogurt, and spices), and Vegetable Manchurian—vegetable balls cooked in a sweet and tangy sauce—making it easy to continue the experience beyond the restaurant.

With its new brunch menu and its continued dedication to Avtar Saini’s vision, Tasty Indian Bistro in Abbotsford has solidified its place as a culinary destination that is as much about connection and legacy as it is about flavour. It is a space where guests can savour every bite, knowing that each dish tells a story—one of family, tradition, and the pursuit of excellence.
