Vancouver Vices: 'Backdraft' Bourbon-Style Whisky Launched by VFC

Vancouver Firefighter Charities (VFC) is proud to introduce ‘Backdraft’ Bourbon-Style Whisky, a premium spirit crafted in partnership with Okanagan Spirits. This unique collaboration not only celebrates the craftsmanship of fine whisky but also serves as a catalyst for supporting essential community programs operated by the VFC.

Inspired by the rich history of Vancouver’s Firehall #6, each bottle of ‘Backdraft’ Bourbon-Style Whisky features a vintage photo, offering a glimpse into the heritage of our local firefighters. Moreover, this inaugural release marks the beginning of an annual fundraiser, with each year featuring a new bottle design that pays homage to different aspects of firefighting culture and history in Vancouver.

“We are thrilled to launch ‘Backdraft’ Bourbon-Style Whisky as a testament to the dedication and passion of our firefighters,” says Brandon Davies, Director of Mission Funding at Vancouver Firefighter Charities. “With funds directed towards initiatives such as Snacks for Kids and Lifelines for Seniors, every purchase of ‘Backdraft’ Whisky becomes a meaningful contribution to the well-being of our community through Vancouver Firefighter Charities.”

‘Backdraft’ Bourbon-Style Whisky started its life in the corn-grain fields just a tractor ride away from Okanagan Spirits’ Vernon distillery. It Is milled, fermented, and distilled in state-of-the-art copper pot flavour stills. The whisky is then put to rest for 5 years in carefully selected virgin use custom toasted and charred American oak barrels. The whisky is then racked and double-wood finished in a diplomatico exclusiva rum cask, offering subtle hints of caramelized sugar cane with a silky smooth mouthfeel.

‘Backdraft’ Bourbon-Style Whisky offers more than just a delightful tasting experience. As part of the launch, Vancouver Firefighter Charities will also roll out a series of cocktail recipes on social media, inviting whisky enthusiasts to explore the versatility of this exceptional spirit. Additionally, ‘Backdraft’ Whisky will take centre stage at select Fire in Your Kitchen Dinners, showcasing its versatility as both a standalone drink and a versatile ingredient in culinary creations.
