Sing Sing Beer Bar has made its highly anticipated debut on Commercial Drive, and it is already redefining the local dining and drinking scene. Known for its eclectic mix of pizza, pho, and an array of drinks, Sing Sing seamlessly blends comfort food with an elevated culinary experience. The Commercial Drive location brings fresh offerings to the table, including a weekend brunch menu and a thoughtfully curated natural and organic wine program.
A Culinary Adventure
At Sing Sing, every dish is crafted with care and creativity. We started our meal with the Pho Chay, a hearty bowl of rice noodles generously layered with mixed vegetables, firm tofu cubes, butternut squash, bell peppers, shiitake mushrooms, carrots, and bok choy. Sprinkled with cilantro and green onions, it is a must-try for anyone seeking a comforting yet flavour-packed meal. For those who enjoy a fiery kick, do not hesitate to ask for it “spicy.”
The Fresh Avocado Tofu Bowl was another standout. The crisp Romaine hearts provided the perfect base for shredded carrots, sweet bell peppers, sticky sambal, crispy shallots, and fragrant herbs like cilantro and mint.
The Shishito Peppers, accompanied by lime-sesame and peanut dipping sauces, offered a delightful balance of smoky, tangy, and nutty flavours.
We also indulged in the Red Chili Tofu (togarashi spice, sriracha, and jalapenos) and Dicky’s Handmade Dumplings, which featured a satisfying crunch of chili piled on freshly shredded radish for added texture and zest.
Drinks That Delight
Sing Sing’s drink menu, overseen by Bar & Beverage Director Chris Anderson, is an adventure in itself. The Boba Colada—a mix of bumbu rum, black tea blend, passionfruit cordial, pineapple, vanilla, coconut milk, toasted almond, and pineapple tapioca pearls—is a playful take on the classic tropical cocktail. For a refreshing twist, the Super Duper Green Juice, featuring fennel-infused gin, fino sherry, elderflower, and sparkling water, paired perfectly with its crisp and herbal notes.
The lager selection features beloved local favourites such as 33 Acres, Driftwood, Twin Sails, Parkside, and Strange Fellows. Equally enticing is the thoughtfully curated wine list, which beckons a return visit for a dedicated tasting. Highlights include the Monte Creek Blueberry Wine, Sicily’s Silicia Grillo (vegan and organic), Italy’s Masi, and Spain’s Manchuela Tempranillo, alongside an array of exceptional international blends.
Weekend Brunch and More
Brunch enthusiasts will love the new menu items, including the Matcha Pancakes. Fluffy and vibrant, these pancakes come topped with fresh strawberries, whipped cream, agave syrup, and a dusting of matcha powder—a treat for both the eyes and the palate.
Sing Sing’s happy hour is a daily highlight, running Monday to Friday from 2 to 5 p.m. and again nightly from 10 p.m. to close. Guests can enjoy $4 lagers, $6 Dad beers, and discounts on cocktails, pizza, pho, and selected wines, making it the perfect spot to unwind.
Aesthetic and Atmosphere
The decor at Sing Sing balances chic minimalism with warmth. The airy layout and blond wood accents are complemented by ample outdoor seating, making it an inviting space for all occasions. A delightful surprise awaits in the washrooms, where wallpaper featuring lush jungle motifs adds a touch of whimsy.
A Must-Visit Destination
Whether you are looking for a relaxing brunch, an adventurous cocktail, or a satisfying dinner, Sing Sing on Commercial Drive delivers on all fronts. With its diverse menu, welcoming atmosphere, and innovative drinks, it is a vibrant addition to the neighbourhood. Do not miss the chance to experience this dynamic spot for yourself—it is sure to become a favourite for locals and visitors alike.
