Winnie and Khairul’s introduction came the way some of the best ones do — long after they had already crossed paths, through friends, in its own unhurried time. By the evening they stood together in the Sapphire Ballroom of the Fairmont Pacific Rim — surrounded by nearly 200 guests who had travelled from China, Canada, the United States, and Bangladesh — that patience felt written into every detail of the room.

The design vision, led by Liting Chan of Paradise Events Inc., was three words in its brief and a world unto itself in its execution: luxurious, elegant, dark contrast with a theatrical edge. Deep velvet green draped every surface of the ballroom, a backdrop so immersive it transformed the space into something theatrical and alive. Against that depth, cascading white florals — hydrangea, rose, baby’s breath, and orchid — rose in towering installations around the stage, their ivory blooms suspended as though caught mid-fall. Gold accents punctuated every surface, from the sculptural charger plates beneath emerald-and-gold menu cards to the floor-to-ceiling candelabras that framed the couple’s dais. The custom floor wrap, geometric and bold in white with gold and emerald, grounded the drama in something sharp and architectural. Setting all of it up within a single day was, by any measure, an extraordinary feat — one that speaks to the precision and artistry Chan and her team bring to every commission.

Cocktail hour filled the foyer with the smooth, warm sound of Karla on saxophone while guests arrived, before the ballroom doors opened to reveal the full scope of the evening. Making Memories Stationery and Vancity Letter had given the celebration its visual identity from the first invitation to the entrance marquee, and the Fairmont Pacific Rim’s culinary team translated that same standard of excellence to the table. Inside, Jace Studio’s live painter worked quietly at the periphery, capturing the evening on canvas in real time as Hong Photography documented every frame with equal care.

Winnie arrived first in a richly embroidered Bangladeshi ensemble, its deep bronze and copper tones catching the light with every movement, the intricate beadwork a tribute to her heritage and a profound fashion statement in its own right. For the reception she changed into an exquisite ballgown — layers of lace and silk spilling across the dance floor in a trail that silenced the room. Khairul was immaculate beside her in a black tuxedo, his composure steady against the spectacle surrounding them both.

The first dance was the emotional peak the evening had been building toward, intimate and unhurried at the centre of the room. Later, pyrotechnic sparks framed the couple as they cut a towering white confection by Momo Chen Cakes, its sculpted sugar roses cascading in elegant disarray. Then, without warning, two lion dancers from Master Lok’s troupe took to the floor — one blazing red, one vivid gold — in a performance that was equal parts cultural honour and pure exhilaration. The crowd leaned in. The room ignited.

When the evening drew to a close, a Rolls-Royce Cullinan from Upper Echelon Chauffeurs waited at the door. It was the final note in an event composed entirely of considered ones — a wedding that belonged, without question, only to the two people at its centre.
