THE HISTORICAL ROSEWOOD
The Rosewood Hotel Georgia is a cornerstone of luxury hospitality in Vancouver. It boasts an incredible building with an even more, often overlooked, fascinating history.
Following its grand debut in the roaring 1920s, Hotel Georgia became a Vancouver legend for introducing unprecedented luxuries to the young city and Canada’s West Coast.
Over the decades, it hosted a long list of Hollywood stars and royalty, from John and Ethel Barrymore, Marlene Dietrich, and her 40 suitcases, to Errol Flynn, Sir Laurence Olivier, and Gary Cooper. Notably, British royalty graced the hotel early on. HRH Edward, Prince of Wales, and his brother George, the Duke of Kent, stayed in 1927 for the Seaforth Highlander’s Ball, a gala event celebrated at the hotel.
During the Jazz Era, the hotel was home to BC’s most popular radio station, CKWX, which broadcast from its studio on the penthouse level for over a decade up to 1941.
In 1950, the iconic pant-wearing Katharine Hepburn introduced late-night room service at the Hotel Georgia. She preferred to dine in the privacy of her room due to her preference for dining late and without bother.
Entertainment impresario Hugh Pickett often hosted showbiz legends like Bing Crosby, Bob Hope, Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., and even the iconic rockers the Rolling Stones, further solidifying the hotel’s status as a premier entertainment destination. By the mid-century, the hotel had become a favourite gathering place for the immortals of show business.
After undergoing a complete renovation and reopening in 2011 as Rosewood Hotel Georgia, the hotel returned to its former grandeur with the additional elegance of extensive amenities and the impeccable service of Rosewood.
From the meticulous restoration of old-world craftsmanship to the installation of the most luxurious furnishings and the latest technology, Rosewood Hotel Georgia offers an unmatched combination of legacy and luxury—a return to the golden age of hotel travel.
A FRESH FACE FOR 2024
On the first day of this year, Rosewood Hotel Georgia began a second extensive refurbishment of the adored gathering spot. The refurbishment will encompass signature spaces throughout the hotel, including the lobby and 1927 Lobby Lounge, its accommodations, and the beloved Reflections Terrace.
The new design will seamlessly connect contemporary elements with classic luxury features, showcasing materials ranging from polished marble and rich dark wood to plush velvet textures that reflect our bustling city.
Additionally, a 6-foot Fazioli F183 in Burled California Walnut from Manuel Bernaschek’s Showcase Pianos has been installed in the lobby and its beautiful full concert grand sound will, without a doubt, add to the allure of the experience at the hotel.
Rosewood Hotel Georgia has been consistently recognized as one of the best places to stay by the world’s leading publications, travel magazines, and consumer organizations.
In 2023, it was named #1 Best Hotel in Canada by the US News & World Report and received, for the 11th consecutive year, the Five-Star Award by Forbes Travel Guide.
