Grab whatever makes you feel unstoppable, because this Pride season, romance is getting a serious glow-up. Forget swiping through an endless feed of mirror selfies at eleven at night. The Vancouver Art Gallery, in collaboration with Thursday Dating, is hosting Meet Me at the Gallery: Pride Edition, an after-hours singles social that trades the bar stool for gallery walls and the awkward small talk for genuinely great conversation starters, world-class art included.

This event takes place on the traditional Coast Salish Lands, including the Musqueam (xʷməθkʷəy̓əm), Squamish (Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw), and Tsleil-Waututh (səl̓ilw̓ətaʔɬ) Nations, a grounding note before an evening built for everyone, however they identify and whoever they hope to meet.
The Vibe: Flattering Light, No Assumptions
Anyone who has ever gotten ready for a night out knows lighting can make or break the whole mood, and the Vancouver Art Gallery understands the assignment. After hours, the Gallery transforms into a glowing social space where guests can wander the exhibitions, sip something delicious, and actually hear the person in front of them. No shouting over a bass drop, no fluorescent bar lighting doing anyone any favours. This is a space designed for connection across the full spectrum of who shows up, not a scene built around one narrow idea of who is supposed to be flirting with whom.
The Host With the Most Presence
The evening is hosted by Mx Bukuru, one of Vancouver‘s most beloved drag performers, whose presence alone sets the tone for an inclusive, playful night. Expect wit, warmth, and the kind of hosting energy that makes strangers feel like old friends within minutes. A live DJ keeps the room moving, while cocktails and mocktails by The Lazy Gourmet ensure there is something delicious in every hand.

The Art: Because Small Talk Deserves Better Material
Instead of the usual “so, what do you do,” guests get to wander past That Green Ideal: Emily Carr and the Idea of Nature, Jim Lambie: Zobop (Colour-Chrome), and Future Geographies: Art in the Century of Climate Change. Nothing sparks a real conversation quite like standing in front of a bold, colour-drenched installation and asking a stranger what they see in it. Consider it a built-in icebreaker with far better production value than a dating app prompt, and one that works no matter who is standing next to you.
